Simple Calculator

Use this free online calculator for everyday arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of any numbers, right in your browser. There is nothing to install, nothing to register, and your calculations never leave your device - everything runs locally on the page.

What the calculator does

The calculator works just like a pocket calculator:

  • Addition (+) - combine two or more numbers, for example 250 + 175.
  • Subtraction (−) - find the difference, for example 500 − 130.
  • Multiplication (×) - for example 12 × 8.
  • Division (÷) - for example 144 ÷ 12. Dividing by zero shows an Error state instead of returning a meaningless result.

Every result updates instantly, and the full expression can be cleared with AC or with the Esc key.

How it works

Calculations are evaluated from left to right as you press the operators, the same way a basic pocket calculator works. For arithmetic that needs operator precedence (for example 2 + 3 × 4 = 14), use the Scientific Calculator instead, which parses complete expressions like 2 + 3 * 4 correctly.

The % key divides the current number by 100. So to work out 19% VAT on €50, enter 50, press ×, enter 19, press %, then = - the result is 9.5, and the total including tax is 59.5.

Keyboard shortcuts

If you prefer typing to clicking, the calculator accepts keyboard input:

  • 0–9 and . - enter digits and the decimal point.
  • + − * / - select an operation.
  • Enter or = - evaluate.
  • Esc - clear everything.
  • Backspace - delete the last digit.
  • % - divide the current value by 100.

There is no need to reach for the mouse: enter 25*4 and press Enter to get 100.

Example: splitting a bill

A restaurant bill comes to €46.80 and you want to split it between three people:

  1. Enter 46.80.
  2. Press ÷, then 3.
  3. Press = - each person pays €15.60.

To check the math, multiply the result back: 15.60 × 3 = 46.80.

When to use which calculator

Use this Simple Calculator for quick, everyday arithmetic: shopping totals, budgets, tips, discounts, or verifying figures on the go.

Reach for the Scientific Calculator when your calculation needs parentheses, powers, roots, trigonometry, or logarithms, and the Color Converter when you work with HEX, RGB, or HSL color values instead of numbers.
