  6. Copy - press Copy to put the banner on your clipboard.

Example

Type Hello with the Standard font to get:

 _ _ _ _
| | | | ___| | | ___
| |_| |/ _ \ | |/ _ \
| _ | __/ | | (_) |
|_| |_|\___|_|_|\___/

Using the Banner in a Spring Boot App

A Spring Boot application prints an ASCII-art banner to the console when it starts up. By default it shows the Spring Boot version banner, but you can replace it with your own text (for example a company name, product name, or version).

How to set it up

  1. Create the banner - type your text in the form above, pick a font, and press Download banner.txt.

  2. Place the file - put the downloaded banner.txt into your Spring Boot project's src/main/resources/ directory. If your project already has a banner.txt there, replace its content with the freshly generated banner. This project, for instance, ships its own startup banner at src/main/resources/banner.txt.

  3. Make sure the banner is printed - Spring Boot shows the text banner by default. If logging is configured (for example with a log file), the banner is turned off automatically, so force it on in src/main/resources/application.properties:

    spring.main.banner-mode=console
    spring.banner.charset=UTF-8

  4. Run your app - the ASCII banner is printed to the console at startup.

Tips

  • When you download the banner, save the file as UTF-8 so special characters from fonts such as Block display correctly.
  • The default location is the classpath root (banner.txt). If you want to keep the banner somewhere else, point to it explicitly: spring.banner.location=classpath:config/banner.txt.
  • A wide banner is fine - it never breaks your app. At most it wraps across several console lines.
